Dr David Yawson is a Senior Lecturer in Agri-food Systems and Environmental Management and the Director of the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill
Campus, Barbados. He has academic background in agriculture (BSc, University of Cape Coast, Ghana), applications of geospatial technologies in agriculture and environmental management (MSc, Wageningen University, Holland), and a research degree in Geography and Environmental Science (PhD, University of Dundee and the James Hutton Institute, UK). His expertise includes mapping and geospatial analysis, remote sensing, environmental systems analysis and management, and analysis of sustainable resource use in agri-food systems. Dr Yawson’s research interests span the nexus of climate, agri-food systems, human health, and environmental resilience. He has deep interest in sustainable resource use (water, land, nutrients) and circulation in agri-food systems, agro-environmental monitoring, agricultural and environmental applications of remote sensing and geographic information systems, and health dimensions of climate change and food system management. Dr Yawson is also interested in soil security and issues in the mega nexus of soil-water-food security. He is an interdisciplinary scientist who has published widely in locally and internationally reputable peer reviewed journals. He has over 15 years’ experience in teaching and research in the tertiary education sector and has taught several undergraduate and postgraduate courses in agriculture and environmental sciences across five universities and eight departments in four countries in Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. Dr Yawson provides research, advisory and consultancy services to Governments, Development Agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
